Israel manda bem, muito bem.

A gente, por aqui, no Brasil, conhece pouco os vinhos israelenses. Eu tive a sorte de visitar o país no ano passado e conhecer praticamente todas suas regiões vinícolas. Há uma bonita matéria minha sobre o tema na revista Adega, dá pra ler aqui.

Na mala, trouxe várias coisas e uma delas estou tomando agora. Ella Valley. Este produtor, como o nome diz, está no vale do Ella, onde Golias e Sansão andaram se estapeando. É uma região um pouco mais fresca no verão que aquelas mais à beira do mediterrâneo. É um corte de 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, e 7% Petit Syrah.

No nariz a fruta é brilhante e madura, clara. Tem um toque de erva seca, de mercado de especiarias, um nota animal bem característica, tipo cavalo (tem que gostar dessas notas animais, difíceis de entender, mas clássicas). Bem complexo, depois aparecem notas de chá preto e bagaço de cana (!) e é alcoólico no nariz. Na boca é quente também, pouca acidez, tem taninos fininhos, grudentos. É firme no sabor, um toque apimentado e é longo, com amargor de café expresso no final. É um vinho musculoso e um pouco rude, elegante e potente. Não para paladares muito delicados. Afinal, ele é israelense.

We know little of Israeli wines in Brazil. I was lucky enough to have visited Israel last year, and got to know practically most of the wine regions. There is a really beautiful article I wrote for Adega magazine, it can be read here in Portuguese

Brought back with me a number of things, and one of them I’m drinking right now. Ella Valley. As the name says, this producer is in the Ella valley, where David and Goliath had their famous duel and Samson was born. The region is a little fresher in the summer than the ones located on the Meditarranean coast. It’s a blend made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 7% Petit Syrah.

On nose the fruit is brilliant and mature, clear. There is a hint of dried herbs, spice market, an animal note that is very typical, like horse (one has to like these animal notes that are hard to pick up but classic). Really complex, then we find notes of black tea and sugarcane (!) and it is alcoholic on nose. On palate it is hot too, has little acidity, fine tannins and it is sticky.  It’s firm in flavour, a touch of pepper and long, like an expresso coffee finish. It’s a muscular wine a little rough, elegant and potent. Not for delicate palates. After all it is from Israel..
